This onion owes its name to the fact that the outer skin and the layers are colored red.
Red onions have a slightly milder flavor than yellow onions. This onion is very decorative in salads and as a garnish.Fried or stewed, red onions are sweeter due to their higher dry matter content.
On average, this onion does not have as long a shelf life as the yellow onion.
Red onions grown in other areas of the world may actually have a spicier flavor.
Our Dutch red onions are available for sale from early August to early June. Agro Centre Holland offers Egyptian red onions in June and July.
